Farmers Insurance Clarksville Tx — Claims Scenario Part 18 Recap Two

In our previous article we learned what led up to Connie and Jerry converting their old barn sitting on their farm into a residence they moved into, and in fact, have lived for the last six months.

On a mild Tuesday morning at approximately 7:05 AM a loud noise interrupted Connie’s Yoga session she was trying to sneak in after putting her youngest, Amy Lynn — 6 months old, back to bed after feeding her.

She also felt a bit odd as if the house had swayed like perhaps an earthquake?  Connie had lived briefly in California when she was going to college so she definitely knew what small quakes felt like.

Turning on the news she discovered nothing, searching inline yielded the same results — no earthquakes reported.

Something was strange however, “Are my eyes playing tricks on me?”  she stated out loud as she looked at her kitchen, it looked like it was sloping downhill.

Taking a saltshaker, she placed it on its side and it immediately rolled across the countertop until it met the wall.  Connie rushes outside and it looks like her house is tilted to the right.

She runs back inside the home and calls Jerry’s cell phone and it goes straight to voicemail and then she remembers he’s running one of the Combines.  Connie hurries behind their home where the storage building is located to retrieve an ATV, one of 3 stored in addition to other farm equipment.

Connie hops onto the blue ATV and fires it up, placing it into reverse and heads out to the field where she believes Jerry is working.

Around 15 minutes later she finds Jerry running their Combine and gets his attention by flashing the headlights repeatedly on the ATV.  Jerry shuts the Combine down, hops out dropping to the ground and Connie quickly explains what happened.

Jerry and Connie head back to the house and Jerry also observes the tilt of their home as he nears their new home.

Jerry is very concerned it could be a sink hole so he carefully inspects all around the foundation and he can’t seem to find anything so he calls the local Farmers Association he is part of to see if anyone else has any ideas on what to do next.

We will learn what happens in our next article.

Insurance for Farmers Denison Tx – Claims Scenario Part 18

Previously, in part 17 of our continuing coverage scenario, Connie and Jerry finally moved into their lovely new home which was a converted barn sitting on their property.

For the first six months everything was what they hoped for. The added space, compared to their previous 3-bedroom 1 bath farm home, made it so much better for the family.

They now felt comfortable inviting their large extended family and friends over for get-togethers on a regular basis.

One morning, though, Connie experienced something strange. The house made a loud noise and then rumbled for a second, almost like an earthquake.

What happened? Let’s continue to find out.

After collecting herself, Connie looked around the room.

The items around the kitchen were slightly disheveled, but nothing was broken or damaged. For the most part, it hardly looked any different. Connie turned on the local news station to see if there were any reports of an earthquake.

After watching the news for about 15 minutes with no reports she turned on her laptop to see if an earthquake had been reported in the area by visiting this website:

https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/

Finding nothing reported by the government or news she noticed something else that seemed off when she glanced back at her kitchen counter.

She walked over and ran her hand along the surface.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me? she wondered to herself.

She grabbed a salt shaker and placed it on its side. Almost immediately, the cylindrical salt shaker rolled across the countertop until it came to a stop at where the counter met the wall.

Connie rushed out the front door to look at her house from the outside.

She couldn’t be absolutely sure, but she was fairly confident that her house was now tilted ever so slightly to the right as if the ground underneath her home sunk.

What happened to my beautiful home Connie thought to herself as she ran inside to call her husband Jerry.

Farm Insurance Hopkins County Texas – Coverage Scenario Part 1

Jim is a farmer in Hopkins County. Due to expansion of his farming business, Jim sees the need for more space to house equipment and in which to work.

To save money, he enlists the help of his son to build the shop rather than pay a building contractor. Together Jim and his son erect a 20 x 30 all-metal shop with a concrete slab floor.

When Jim purchases an insurance policy for the new structure he insists on insuring it for $16,000. After all, the sheet metal, supports, concrete slabs, and other materials cost a total of $16,000.

“Why insure it for more than it cost to make?” Jim reasons to himself. Additionally, a lower insurance limit means lower insurance premium payments.

Several years go by. Jim gets a lot of good use out of his shop, and business is going well.

One night in the height of summer a violent storm blows in. The fierce winds bring down two ancient oak trees on Jim’s property. The trees both land directly on the shop Jim and his son built years ago, completely destroying the structure.

Jim files an insurance claim for the loss of his shop. After assessing the situation his insurance company estimates that the replacement cost of the shop is $30,000, but because the limit of insurance on Jim’s policy is set at $16,000 he will only be reimbursed for $14,000 after his $2,000 deductible.

How did the insurance company come up with this number?

We will answer that question in our next article.
